What a scary week it has been in New South Wales. It’s hard to know how to explain so many things to our children right now about climate change and natural disasters because in reality things will only get worse before they get better. Climate anxiety and eco-depression are very real amongst adults, young children and teens and we have to keep our feelings in check so we don’t become overwhelmed into non-action and despair. We have to be so careful to censor what is heard by our young ones right now.
The new models of innovation exampled in the award-winning film 2040 and listed by Project Drawdown show us ways to easily get involved and start being more pro-active. But I would love to hear from you and how you are explaining or holding space for yourself and your children right now…How do you tell them what is going on without overwhelming them? Is it better to avoid the conversations or is your fear being felt by your children anyway?
Peaceful births create a peaceful earth is such a lovely saying and I absolutely believe it – but I also think it is more than a peaceful earth we need right now. People need to wake up!
I have been brainstorming my new book and the essence I want to convey and I think it comes down to this… Birth matters!
I believe that currently in our modern world giving birth is the greatest missed opportunity of a woman’s life.
Through a woman’s agency and her actions, she has the ability to create the most empowering experience of all – a true Hero’s Journey – a beautiful birth, no matter what unfolds.
Whether she has an ecstatic water birth or whether her unplanned c-s requires debriefing, it all requires integration postpartum – because she is a new person.
All birth creates a revolution inside of us. A woman when prepared and supported with agency and action becomes more connected, more creative, more concerned about her planet and more willing to step up to challenges. Tell me if this is true for you! How do you think we can help the world understand the importance of birth?
In the meantime, we are still changing birth one day at a time here at head office lounge room and I am crazy in love with our new birth story video – showing two mums and two cousins describing their own experiences. Jay and Amy are fun and competitive sisters. Amy is the new mum and she was there when little Zoe was born…then Zoe got to be there when Amy birthed Chloe. Sounds confusing but it will make sense once you jump in.
How priceless is it that 9-year-old Zoe now has such a strong imprint of a beautiful birth in her body and mind. I am praying that she can just brush off those One Born Every Minute dramas and the rubbish Hollywood films she might see later with women screaming through a colonised, clinical, supine, stirrups, makeup-wearing birth scene.
I have lots more to share with you over the coming months – so many new ideas finally have space to bubble to the surface and we are about to launch my own personal website too. Now that my baby boy Leroy has finished school it is time for his and my gap year.
This week we are going to donate 5% of all purchases to the NSW Rural Fire Services and donate $5 for each testimonial received via our Share Your Story page (quickie, video or long format).
The NSW RFS is the largest fire service in the world with 74,000 volunteers. They provide emergency services to 95% of NSW and in my mind, they are true heroes.
Thank you for your support of She Births® and thank you for supporting the NSW RFS in advance. Birth matters and the Earth Matters too. Together we can achieve the change we so desperately need.
All my love
