DADDY DOULA: ADAM

My partner and I prepared ourselves for birth very differently. I threw myself into the She Births® course and followed its suggestions rigorously. Whereas my partner approached the course information and the techniques we practised together with a much more reserved demeanour. I was a little worried that his lack of enthusiasm meant he wasn’t taking anything on board but time would tell that that wasn’t the case.

Within our first hour at the hospital he showed me what he was made of when he argued with a nurse who wanted me to stand still during a contraction – can you imagine? He knew that it was an unreasonable request and that my hip swirling management of the contraction was more important.

Throughout my labour he coached my breathing, encouraging me to reconnect with the breath when I felt overwhelmed, which was so incredibly necessary towards the end of my labour. He was truly a Daddy Doula!
